69.) Aftermath

A big tropical low parked right offshore last week - rain for days, major floods, 400 mm rain just N of here. This was not a cyclone but it did a lot of damage at the beach due to the coincidence of wind driven waves and high tides.
Down at a new beach overlook - wild weather just above the crashing surf.

Prior to the storm this post
stuck 1 meter out of the dunes!

That is a lot of sand missing!

The area behind Nancy was all vegetated dunes last week. Lots of new beach realestate now!

Remains of a walkway that led down to the former beach location

These are all railings and fence posts that used to protect the vegetation in the dunes along the beach - well both the vegetation and the dunes are gone. this will be a major rebuild next summer.

Sea-foam - waist to knee-deep along miles of coast. Formed by organics in salt-water whipped into a foam by waves. The paper held warnings about things that lurk in the foam - seas snakes, viruses, gaping holes. A few years back it was 16' deep one day down in NSW!

These rocks are normally buried under the sand..

This sand scarp will have to be knocked down. Kids love to dig tunnels into them - but a few tons of sand on your head spoils the day....

The beaches are black in places - all the light weight quartz sands have been washed out to sea leaving a think layer of "heavies". It's is a pretty dramatic change in the beaches of the "Gold Coast"

hmmm.. political correctness is not a strong point here.

Foam! Full of sea snakes and viruses!
Aiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!
